About the artist
Janice Mack is a charcoal and pastel artist based in North Shields, North East England. Working in an impressionist style, her artwork captures the landscapes, wildlife and people of the region. Her work has been selected for regional exhibitions, including the Northumberland Open at Woodhorn Museum, and is held in private collections.

Housed in Woodhorn Museum’s stunning Workshop Galleries, the annual Northumberland Open is the largest exhibition of its type in Northumberland.
The theme for their 2024 Open Exhibition is ‘Northumberland Now’ and is inspired by the work of the Ashington Group of Artists, also known as the Pitmen Painters. 2024 is the 90th anniversary of the formation of the Ashington Group in 1934, and the Northumberland Open Exhibition marks the start of a year-long programme of exhibitions and events celebrating their legacy.
My piece, titled ‘Cresswell Sunrise’, was selected for exhibition by a professional panel of artists and curator.

The Northumberland Open Exhibition, housed in the stunning Workshop Galleries, is the largest exhibition of its type in Northumberland, attracting submissions from artists across the county and beyond.
The theme for the 2023 Open Exhibition was ‘Wild Northumberland’, inspired by Northumberland’s wild and unique landscapes, wildlife, weather and local characters.
My piece, titled ‘Old Seafarer’, was chosen to be part of the 100 works selected for exhibition by a professional panel of artists and curator.
This piece also sold at the exhibition.
This event was in aid of the Denis Goldberg Legacy project ‘House of Hope’ in Cape Town, South Africa. I donated this piece, titled ‘Somali Lady’, towards their charity auction, where it was favourably received and the proceeds helped them towards achieving their fundraising goals.
This piece, titled ‘Traigh Beach, Arisaig’, was exhibited and sold at this North East Arts event.
